Company Opens in Covington, Creates 20-25 New Jobs

May 27, 2011

County Executive Jeff Huffman and City of Covington Mayor David Gordon announced today that a new company, Sustainable Fiber Solutions will begin production operations at a 147,000 square foot building in Covington, TN.  The project will generate an investment of at least $8 million and create approximately 20-25 new jobs. Sustainable Fiber Solutions will operate a state-of-the-art print coating facility that is a low cost applicator of environmentally friendly water-based coatings.  Testing of the current equipment is currently on-going and production is set to begin in the Covington facility during the first quarter of 2011. The former Abitibi-Bowater Covington facility produced coated printed paper for national publications and magazines.

“This is great news for Covington and Tipton County,” Mayor Gordon said. “These new jobs are the result of a strong partnership created between the company and the local community. I’m pleased Sustainable Fiber Solutions has chosen to establish its presence in Covington, Tennessee and we look forward to working with them on this ambitious industrial project.”  “Covington is proud to have Sustainable Fiber Solutions as one of its new corporate citizens. We are thrilled with the confidence they have shown in the area workforce by choosing Covington for its new venture, and we are here to support them in their plans,” continued Mayor Gordon.  “Recruiting the project was an excellent example of collaboration and cooperation among many at both the state and local levels. We welcome the additional jobs and investment this company brings to the area.”

“Tipton County welcomes Sustainable Fiber Solutions to our community,” said Tipton County Executive Jeff Huffman. “Sustainable Fiber Solutions’ decision to initiate its start-up project in the Covington facility in Tipton County speaks to both the outstanding location along the central trade corridors of the US and the high quality of the area workforce,” said County Executive Huffman. “Mayor Gordon and I are thankful to Sustainable Fiber Solutions for its investment in our citizens and county, and we look forward to working with them.”

“This new project is a great example of what can be accomplished when there is collaboration and cooperation among those on the state and local levels, including our local power provider Covington Electric System,” said John Bradley, senior vice president of economic development for the Tennessee Valley Authority. “We are proud to support existing industry and will continue to work with Sustainable Fiber Solutions as they grow in the Covington community.”
